Alpha

  • Why and how should I read the Bible?
  • Why did Jesus Die?
  • Why and How Do I Pray?
  • Christianity; Boring, Untrue, Irrelevant?
  • How can I be sure of my faith?
  • Who is the Holy Spirit?
  • How can I make the most of the rest of my life?

Are you looking for answers to questions like these?  You are not alone. Come to the Alpha evenings.

Alpha is an 11 week course for all who are interested in examining these and other questions about Christianity. We provide a relaxed and informal setting where all are welcome to join in the discussions. Each week you will watch a video and join a small group for discussion.

The Alpha course is an opportunity for anyone to explore spirituality from a Christian perspective.  Relaxed, non-threatening. low-key, and fun.  Alpha is a place to ask anything - no question is considered too simple or too hostile.

Is Alpha for you?  Everyone is welcome on an Alpha course!  Some people want to investigate whether God exists and if there is any point to life; others are concerned about what happens after death.  Still others may have attended church, but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith.  People come from many different backgrounds and hold many different viewpoints, but most come with the same basic objective; to establish whether God and Jesus Christ have any real relevance for their lives.

Bring your questions, concerns and a friend and join us for a lively weekly evening.  Also, bring your appetite - we start each Thursday Alpha evening with a dinner at 6:00pm.

For questions or just for more information please email alpha@cpclombard.org or call the office at 630.627.0306.

small groups

If you have been through the Alpha course please come to one of the other classes that we are offering.  These are the groups for the Winter Session 2009 - starting January 8.

Jesus

Who exactly is Jesus? Teacher? Martyr? Many today are unsure. Even scholars debate whether the Jesus of history is the Christ of faith. Charles Swindoll’s biography of Jesus is filled with biblical and historical insights that cover Jesus the child, the rabbi, the substitute and the king. This journey, a book discussion led by Dave Micksch, will hopefully paint a clear picture of Jesus of Nazareth.

What’s So Amazing About Grace?

This group, led by Kara Zimmerman, will be a sharing and book discussion group of the book by Philip Yancey, exploring grace as God’s love for the undeserving and what it can look like in action.

Devotional Classics

This group will read selections from Devotional Classics, a book about the spiritual life: spiritual growth, prayer, worship and our walk with Christ. There will be about a half hour of homework per week (reading the short devotional classic) to aid in group discussion during the meeting. Stewart Pattison, the group leader, believes this course will be interesting, insightful, practical and helpful to our lives as disciples of Christ. New members are welcome to join!
