Listen to today's daily devotion on this video.

Finally, all of you have unity of spirit, sympathy, love of the brethren, a tender heart and a humble mind. Do not return evil for evil, or reviling for reviling; but on the contrary bless, for to this you have been called, that you may obtain a blessing.

I Peter 3: 8-9

“We are united. We are in this together. We are one people.” It has become the mantra of our country at this time of unparalleled sorrow and grief. But it is not a new declaration. Scripture proscribes it, as we are commanded to have unity of spirit, love of brothers and sisters, a tender heart toward one another, and humility before God and mankind. If we follow this command we will refuse to return evil when pressed upon us, and we will refuse to revile one another and move, instead, to promote the other. Above all, we will bless one another, asking God’s favor on all.

Let us pray with our CPC sisters and brothers . . .

Good and gracious God, You have called us to bless one another and to call upon You for favor upon all our sisters and brothers. Fill us with the desire to reach for one another in unity, in sympathy, in love for one another with a tender heart and a humble mind. Curb our temptation to return evil with evil. Strengthen our resolve to bless when reviled. And let us obtain a blessing in our efforts to follow Your command to love, no matter the cost. Amen.
