“Behold, O Lord, for I am in distress, my soul is in tumult, my heart is wrung within me….”

Lamentations 1:20

Without dispute, these are tumultuous times for our world. Everywhere there is threat from a virus that knows no boundaries of race, color, creed, age or gender. There is a lesson here for us: as there are no boundaries in disease, so too must there be no boundary in the healing of dis-ease. We are a people who face illness, hunger, thirst, homelessness, unemployment, foreclosure, addiction, and isolation. We are a people who feel these threats and our hearts are wrung within us. So we turn to our Lord to behold us, see us, and calm us as He holds our hearts in His nail-scarred hands.

Let us pray with our CPC sisters and brothers . . .

O God, as we enter this holiest of weeks, we pray the company of Your Holy Spirit that we face these days of grief and sorrow truly repentant of our sins. As the threats of the world come to us evermore, comfort and reassure us that our hearts rest in the nail-scarred hands of Jesus, and under the sovereign might of the Father. Amen.
