Daily Devotion - March 16th
Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Do not worry? Could the Apostle Paul possibly be speaking to us? Of course we are worried, if by definition the verb means to experience great unease or anxiety. But a further definition includes allowing one’s mind to dwell on difficulty and troubles.
It is this second part of worry Paul addresses here. The dwelling on. The Word has us dwelling on prayer, supplication, thanksgiving and requests. The Word has us dwelling on the peace only God can give. So we guard our hearts and our minds, dwelling on the saving grace of Christ Jesus, knowing that it is His love that dwells within us.
Let us pray with our CPC sisters and brothers…
Gracious God, You love us and grieve with us that this virus has visited Your people. We are precious in Your sight, and You neither slumber nor sleep in Your watch over us. Guard our thoughts and our fears, help us place our trust in Your never-failing goodness, and guide us through these days of sorrow. Amen.
