DAILY DEVOTION - MARCH 19
I hereby command you: Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
God had commissioned Joshua to lead His people to cross the Jordan after the death of Moses. Again and again God commands His servant to be of strong courage, reminding Joshua that he is to overcome fear and dismay, and leave the wilderness.
We are reminded of something too: that courage is not the absence of fear but the conquering of it. And we are reminded that we can conquer absolutely nothing without the strength of our Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is the Source of all strength, and in sending Jesus death is conquered, sin is defeated, eternal separation is bridged, and we walk under the power of the Spirit. Never leaving us, our God commands us to depend on Him to be our strength and our courage.
Let us pray with our CPC sisters and brothers….
We listen to Your command, Sovereign God, knowing that it is Your power that propels us forward in faithful courage. Remove our fears, shield us from despair, and give us a portion of Your strength that we may walk through this wilderness. And then lead us into the land of healing. Amen.
