WHAT WE BELIEVE
A Brief Statement of FaithIn life and in death, we belong to God. Through the grace of Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the presence of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God—our Creator, Savior, and Sustainer—whom we worship and serve.
We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human and fully God. Jesus came to show us God’s Kingdom by bringing hope to the poor, freedom to those held captive, healing to the sick, and love to the brokenhearted. He ate with those rejected by society, forgave sinners, and called everyone to follow Him. Though He suffered on the cross for our sake, God raised Jesus from the dead, offering us eternal life and new beginnings in Him. We trust in God, whom Jesus called Abba, Father. In His infinite love, God created the world and made every person in His image, of every race and background, to live in community with one another. God’s love for us is unwavering. God’s faithfulness is everlasting, and His love continues to guide us. We trust in the Holy Spirit, the giver and renewer of life. The Spirit makes us right with God by grace, freeing us to love ourselves, God, and our neighbors. The Spirit unites all believers in the body of Christ, the Church. This same Spirit that inspired prophets and apostles guides us today, speaking through Scripture, through the Word proclaimed, in baptism, and in communion. The Spirit empowers us to be the hands and feet of Jesus, spreading love, seeking justice, and working toward peace. In gratitude to God and through the Spirit’s power, we strive to serve Christ in our daily lives and live joyfully and boldly. As we look forward to the fullness of God’s Kingdom, we pray, “Come, Lord Jesus!” Together with believers everywhere, we rejoice that nothing—neither life nor death—can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen. |
The Calling of the ChurchThe Church is the body of Christ. Christ gives to the Church all the gifts necessary to be his body. The Church strives to demonstrate these gifts in its life as a community in the world (1 Cor. 12:27–28):
